Quitting ... Randy Jackson will no longer be an American Idol judge
RANDY Jackson has "quit" as a judge on American Idol.
The record producer has followed in the footsteps of fellow panelists Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler and left the show, according to reports.But he will remain a part of the US telly hit, by becoming a mentor to contestants, TMZ has reported.
Randy, 56, was the only original judge left, after first joining Idol alongside Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell in 2002.
The new line-up is yet to be confirmed, but it is said there will be four judges sitting on the panel.
Pop diva Mariah Carey has already signed a megabucks deal to join the show.
While hip-hop star Nicki Minaj is also in the running for a spot at the table.
And country stars Brad Paisley and Keith Urban are being considered to ensure the show pleases its core viewers in middle America.
